FAQs

How did Sun's Out Swim School start?

Brian Behring founded Sun's Out Swim School in 2018. After teaching swim lessons in Texas, Australia, Philadelphia, and Michigan he wanted to bring high-quality swim lessons to his hometown. Our lessons are taught by experienced, lifeguard-certified instructors using a proven curriculum.

What is the Sun's Out Swim School facility like?

Currently, Sun's Out operates out of a private residence. Our heated outdoor pool is big enough to accommodate any pre-competitive swimmer. We have plenty of shaded seating for family members. A restroom is available. We hope to have a home of our own in the future!

What skills are taught during swim lessons?

Our swim lesson curriculum is built on progressions of essential skills. Swimmers begin with basic safety skills, progress to fundamental swimming skills, and continue on to stroke technique. Check out our Gallery to see pictures and videos of our lessons! If you have more specific questions, please call, text, or email anytime.

At what age can my child start swim lessons?

Swimmers must be 2 years old and fully potty trained before beginning swim lessons.

Is there a lifeguard on duty?

We do not have a lifeguard on duty, but all of our instructors are American Red Cross certified lifeguards. Your children's safety is our number one priority!

What does my child need for swim lessons?

All your child needs for lessons is a swimsuit, a towel, and sunscreen!

Should my child wear goggles during lessons?

We recommend that swimmers do not wear goggles until they have demonstrated water-safety. Ask your instructor what's best for your child.

My children are 3 and 5 years old. Can they be in the same lesson?

Yes! Swimmers sharing a lesson do not need to be at the same skill level. Instructors will tailor the lesson to suit both children simultaneously. We recommend either splitting a lesson in half or separate lessons if one of your swimmers is a two year old beginner.

How long will it take my child to learn to swim?

Every child learns at a different pace and has different innate strengths and struggles in the water. Your instructor will ensure your swimmer gets the most out of their lessons as possible by adapting to their learning style and spending extra time on certain skills. While we do not guarantee the mastery of a specific skill in a certain period of time, we are confident every child can become a successful swimmer at Sun's Out Swim School. Your instructor will keep you updated on your child's progress after each and every lesson.

My child needs a refresher before swim team begins, is Sun's Out right for us?

If your child is new to swim team and needs a refresher on stroke technique, a few private lessons with us will do the trick. If your child needs lap swimming to build strength and endurance, our facility is not the best fit at this time.
